Conference eGovernment. Effective, Accountable and Open Public Administration in the European Union

On May 12-13, 2021, the Chair of European Law of the Jagiellonian University in cooperation with the Institute of Law and Economics of the Pedagogical University of Krakow organized an international conference entitled “eGovernment. Effective, Accountable and Open Public Administration in the European Union”.

The conference participants were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University, professor Jerzy Pisuliński and the director of the Institute of Law and Economics of the Pedagogical University of Krakow, professor Kazimiera Juszka.

The topics of the papers concerned digital transformation of European administration, e-administration from the perspective of European law, the digitization of administration as a catalyst for the transformation towards an open, responsible administration providing e-services to citizens, current digital challenges for Polish administration and e-administration as a factor increasing the potential of public administration in EU Member States and Associated Countries.

The participants and speakers included representatives of EU institutions and courts, Polish and foreign universities from France, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovakia, Albania, Romania and Israel. Interesting speeches were also presented by young scientists and students. The speeches of Polish and foreign scientists showed that the e-administration process in individual countries and in specific areas of operation of administrative bodies encounters similar difficulties, and the proposed solutions must take into account an interdisciplinary approach to the analyzed issue. The digitization of administration is a process that requires not only legal changes, but also organizational and technical changes, not forgetting the need to support older people who find it harder to find themselves in the world of digital transformation.

The conference was organized as part of the Jean Monnet Module project, coordinated by professor Sławomir Dudzik. The chairman of the organizing committee of the conference was dr hab. Inga Kawka, and the members: dr hab. Monika Niedźwiedź, dr Małgorzata Kożuch, dr Aleksandra Sołtysińska and dr Monika Kawczyńska.
