US and EU law on content moderation by online platforms

The webinar provided an opportunity to compare US and EU legal solutions to content moderation by online platforms.

US law was presented by Professor Amy Gajda of Tulane University (New Orleans),

and EU law by Dr Inga Kawka of the Department of European Law at the Jagiellonian University (Krakow).

Amy Gajda, Tulane Law School’s Class of 1937 Professor of Law and a New York Times notable author, is a journalist turned lawyer recognized internationally for her expertise in privacy and media law.

Viking published Gajda’s book Seek and Hide: The Tangled History of the Right to Privacy in 2022 to significant critical acclaim. The New York Times named it one of the top 100 books of the year, calling it “wry and fascinating.” The courts of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit chose it as the Circuit’s inaugural “One Court. One Book” reading. Harvard University Press published her two earlier books, The First Amendment Bubble and The Trials of Academe.

Gajda has also published two casebooks, numerous scholarly articles, and book chapters. Her opinion pieces have appeared in The New York Times, Wired, Slate, Time, the Daily Beast, and the New York Daily News, among others. Earlier journalism work, while she was on the journalism and law faculties of the University of Illinois, won seven Associated Press awards.

Gajda has been awarded both Tulane Law School’s and Tulane University’s highest teaching honors.
